The Ribboned Crown

~ A Costume Change (of sorts) ~

I'm a firm believer (huge, actually) that everything happens for a reason. I'm thinking there was a reason I stumbled upon my old sketches and I've picked up a pencil again.

 

 Maybe something was trying to get my attention. Who knows!!

Whatever the reason, I'm definately having fun exploring my old stomping grounds.

Maybe I'm headed in the right direction!!?? We'll see. Maybe use the drawings on tags or stationary?

I don't know. Either way it's a fun diversion and/or addition to my other kind of art.

  

And speaking of diversions, I will be off  until mid to late August. I'm participating in a fantastic artists' show called Tinsel And Treasures on September 13th, so I need to get busy and prepare for that. And on August 16, American Harvest will be having their annual Halloween Party. So.....that's what I'll be up to. I'm sure I'll visit you now and again until then, maybe posting a preview of my progress but for the most part I'll be working at the real job, and then catching up with family, friends and creating. See you all soon!!

P.S. Maybe I'll come and visit you and leave a comment with a ficticious name so no one will know it's me- like..umm...Mrs. Depp. You'd never guess it was me, right?

A MAD TEA PARTY!!!!!

And OF COURSE, I'm running a bit late!! Running around trying to get ready, I feel these eyes watching me.

 

"Don't forget to bring the Hat", he reminds me. "What hat??"  I ask.

 

"Oh yes!! THAT hat!!

The special hat. Just perfect for the party!!

I'd love a cup now but no time!!! Vanessa will surely have a cup I can borrow at the tea!!

So who will be at this Mad Party??? I'm thinking everyone!!

Everyone under the moon, I bet!!

So many people will be there, I'll bring my photo album and "fill it to the brim" with memories!!

Again I hear a voice, "Don't forget your music. You are singing, right?"

"Maybe, if I get up the nerve,", I reply.

I've been practicing so we'll see.

It IS the perfect song for the perfect hostess, Miss Valencia!!!

Visiting Vanessa today will surely be a magical dream!!!! So, do I have eveything?? I think so, so I'm off to the TEA!!!

~ Maybe it IS like riding a bike! ~

 

About a week and a half  ago, I  posted some sketches and drawings I did back in the 70's. I hadn't tried to draw anything since then but it got me inspired to try.

 I thought I'd play around with something for the Mad Tea Party coming up this Saturday, June 28th.

  I'm kind of excited to see that maybe I can try my hand at using some original artwork in my creations.

So, it is like riding a bike. It kind of comes back to you. Except there aren't thirty people around me drawing at the same time in art class. It's just me here. Aha... then I guess it's more like riding a unicycle. Bring on the dresdens and glitter!! See you Saturday.

Happy Father's Day, Dad

Below is a post I did a year ago for my dad. I was just beginning my blog and I know few read about how special he was to me so thank you for allowing me to share it again.

This is my Dad with my mom on Memorial Day a few years back. Together they were are team, I'll tell you. My three sisters and I were were truely blessed to have grown up in a Father Knows Best kind of life. My mom didn't drive much so my dad was the one who took us to the doctors, to check out our classrooms before our first day of school, etc. He played games, hop scotch, you name it!! What a doll he was.

We lost him two years ago but I still feel him with me everyday. He was the funniest man Ive ever met and had a smile for days! But the thing that is most forefront in my mind was his integrity. He always taught us to do the right thing, especially when no one was looking. He was extradordinary.

He was the most joyous man I have ever known. The best man I have ever known. Thank you dad for the many life lessons you taught all four of us. I'm so proud to be your daughter. Happy Father's Day...

~ A Bit of a Sketchy Past ~

Once upon a time, (like a bazillion years ago - we're talking the 70's and early 80's) my artwork didn't include a glue gun, or dresden trims. Or glitter.

 

I was a pen and ink girl. A pencil sketch girl. A colored pencil girl.

  This was a pen and ink I did in 1973! I gave it to a boy that I had the biggest crush on (who I married 15 years later).

Going through our storage unit I found my old portfolio from the 70's and 80's. I had forgotten about so many of these drawings. Most are damaged from water and such but I'm so happy to have saved some of them.

This was from an old Calvin Klein ad. Hmmm...must have been my Sex and the City era.

I'm thinking I had a proportion problem- those legs!! A little long I'd say.

Most definately  proportion challenged. (Maybe I was listening to Rod Stewart at the time - 'Hot Legs")

No wonder she has attutude. I would too, with legs like that.

 

I think I drew these for a friend's fashion design class.

1970's shoes!!

 

I remember in art class we had to do a perspective drawing without using a ruler.

I have no idea what this one is about.

I was totally into the beach, the ocean, sea shells (Remember-I was voted Best Tan. Oh brother.)

A bit of watercolor with an ink drawing- wrinkled and worn.

And back to Sex and the City.

Kind of a 'May/December' romance looking drawing as I see it all these years later.

So maybe there's a place for my old art mixed in with my style now. I haven't sketched or drawn in years. I wonder if it would come back to me, like riding a bike. Or, I may be forever peaked out at the Pictionary level!!
